The extra 2 stitches are the first and last K1 after the selvege stitches. So you have 1 selvedge st K1tbl, K1, work the 9 stitch pattern repeat, K1, 1 selvedge stitch sl1wyif. Then when you add your stitches you are going to cast on 9 and then knit across all of them, next row, cast on 9 and knit across all of those stitches. Then when you start back on row 1 you will k1tbl, K1, work 27 stitches in the 9 stitch pattern repeat, (you will knit the 9 st pattern repeat 3 times) K1, sl1 wyif. And keep repeating that sequence.
